Below are some common questions about our products
We’ve made this easy for you. Each wellness tea has its own specific dosage recommendation, and you can find it on the packaging or detailed in our online store.
The recommended maximum intake of caffeinated teas is no more than five 1-cup servings per day.
If you’re thinking that some days call for more, we hear you! The good news is that you can supplement this with our healthy caffeine-free wellness teas.
More than simply a great way to hydrate, every tea break is a chance to pepper your day with soothing and relaxing moments and drink in the health benefits. It’s what you add to tea that can have the more consequential downsides, so think about going easy on the sugar and artificial sweeteners.
Some of our wellness teas can be enjoyed any time of day, while others are created to support the ebb and flow of your day, from boosting your energy in the morning, to overcoming afternoon brain fog or unwinding at night in preparation for deep, sweet sleep.
Check the packaging or our online store to find the recommended dosage and the best time to enjoy each of our teas.
This is a difficult one to answer with absolute accuracy, since it’s dependant on the individual tree, the types of leaves, the temperature of the water you use and the brewing time.
As a guide though, use these per-cup estimates:
Instant coffee approximately 120-150mg
Black Tea around half of coffee, or 60-75mg
Oolong 30-45mg
Green Tea 15-30mg
White Tea 10-15mg
Herbal Tea 0mg
We know coffee is not a tea, but if you’re looking to reduce your caffeine intake, we thought this was helpful information.
Every single one of them!
We are passionate about cruelty-free and would never dream of having animal products anywhere near our teas.
We take every precaution to ensure there is no cross-contamination during the blending of our teas, but we cannot guarantee they are 100% nut-free.
Sometimes almonds and hazelnuts are used in our factory and there is a chance – a small one, but we’d be nutty not to let you know - that residue can make its way into our tea. We can assure you though, our factory is a peanut-free zone.
The answer here is similar to the nut question. While we can guarantee that we do not add any gluten to our Purithe teas, we cannot give you a 100% zero-gluten guarantee.
We work with our supply streams to avoid gluten, but there is a chance that traces may slip by our gluten guards.
We don’t risk leaving this one to chance.
We independently test all of our ingredients and our teas are certified free of arsenic, cyanide and other nasty chemicals and pesticides. We call in the experts for our testing, using only Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) authorised labs, or an equivalent Japanese or European testing facility.
A number of the beautiful Purithe teas are suitable for little tummies. We even created one especially for the kids called Little-Me-Tea and it is a deliciously fruity drop. Other suitable options for kids are our Organic Chamomile and Organic Peppermint teas.
We recommend 1-2 cups of tea per day for kids up to 12 years of age using 1-3grams – that’s ½ to 1 teaspoon - of tea per cup.
Not yet, but we’re working on it and over time we will increase the number of certified organic teas
in our range.
We do use certified organic ingredients where possible, and organic or not, we only choose superior quality ingredients from ethical suppliers. Our aim is to provide teas that are best for your health and best for our precious world. Rest assured, our teas have no additives, colours or synthetic flavours – just the true flavours and colours of nature.
We say a firm NO to GMO. We searched the planet to ensure our teas contain only pure ingredients, and that means we are 100% GMO-free.
We selectively purchase our teas from the finest growers in the most renowned tea growing regions of India, Sri Lanka, China, Korea, South Africa, Japan, Indonesia and Australia. All teas are blended and packaged in Australia, with love.
Single origin teas are prized by tea connoisseurs for their superior taste and aroma. A single origin tea is one where all the leaves come from a single growing estate. They are never blended with leaves from other estates, even if they are from the same region, and never-ever are they artificially flavoured.
Rooibos is an Afrikaans word that means red bush. This antioxidant-drenched tea is made with leaves from the shrub called aspalathus linearis, which normally grows on the western coast of South Africa. It’s caffeine-free, with a lusciously earthy flavour.
With many of our teas, the flavour comes naturally from the masterfully blended combination of herbs and leaves included in the tea recipe. However, sometimes, we might enhance a flavour or add a natural flavour during the blending process to create an even more awesome tasting tea.
When we do add flavouring, we use only 100% natural flavouring and note its presence on the
ingredient list.
Some teas are sensitive to heat and these are best brewed with water below boiling point. For a
perfect cup, we recommend you follow the brewing instructions for each Purithe tea. You’ll find
them on the packaging or in our online store.
If you don’t have a temperature-set electric kettle or can’t be bothered with a thermometer, then boil the kettle and let it sit for five minutes before steeping your tea. You’ll be rewarded with a magnificent flavour profile if you follow our lead.
Our pyramid tea bags are not just all about good looks; we use them because they’re better for
your health and they don’t diminish the flavour of your tea. They are made from non-plastic, biodegradable, plant-based mesh. They may take a while to breakdown, but they are guaranteed compostable.
If that concerns you, you could always try drinking loose-leaf tea and put the soggy tea leaves in your compost or in your garden.
Looks can be deceiving, and in this case that’s a great thing. It’s not actually plastic, but rather a
natural plant-based cellophane material called NatureFlex™. It’s made out of renewable wood
pulp from managed plantations. You can place it in your home compost and it will breakdown in
a few months. See, you really can judge a tea by its cover!
Light and moisture are not great friends of tea, so it’s best to store your loose tea and pyramid tea bags – once you’ve opened them, of course – in an airtight container and, if it’s see through, make sure you keep it away from light. We created our beautiful white ceramic jars with airtight bamboo lids so you could have the perfect home for your tea. We’ve also created stickers to label your jars for at-a-glance selection. With proper storage, your teas will maintain their true flavour up to two years.
For new Mums and Mums-to-Be
Below are some common questions about consuming Purithe safely during pregnancy and breastfeeding
We developed a range of teas that are not only suitable during pregnancy, they are cleverly and lovingly crafted to support and optimise the health of both mum and bub through the motherhood journey.
You can safely enjoy tea for fertility, during pregnancy and even a tea to support healthy lactation, with the comfort of knowing these teas were formulated by our naturopath.
Some of our single teas are also suitable, like Organic Chamomile and Organic Peppermint. Even so, when it comes to your precious bundle of joy, we recommend that you seek medical advice from your health care practitioner.
We’d be happy to. This tea was developed by our naturopath to support and increase natural
fertility potential. It’s not recommended if you’re currently undergoing IVF treatment or in tandem with other medications.
Once your baby is onboard, you can enjoy our Morning Vitality pregnancy tea or Organic Chamomile and Organic Peppermint throughout your pregnancy.
We have a tea just for you! Our naturopath has designed a beautiful lactation tea, combining herbs that have been traditionally used to support healthy lactation and ease digestion for mum and bub. It’s caffeine-free and completely void of any flavours, sweeteners or additives.
Company Info
Below are some common questions about Purithe
Purithe is a play on the word purity, and also on the phrase “pure tea”. It represents what we’re all about; putting the purest, most ethical, full-flavoured teas into your every cup. And in case you were wondering, it’s pronounced pure-i-tea, just like the word purity.
Aside from a cup of healthy deliciousness? All tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant, whether it’s white, green, oolong or black. The difference between these tea varieties is all in how the leaves are processed.
The tea making process begins as soon as the leaves are picked, and oxidation kicks in. Oxidation is simply the fermentation process that happens when air affects the leaf. Depending on what type of tea is being created, the leaves will be either roasted, steamed, fired, rolled or aged. White teas are the least oxidized, followed by green, oolong and finally black.
All that aside though, we tend to agree with British children’s writer, Frances Hardinge, who said: “Tea is the magic key to the vault where my brain is kept.”
Since herbal teas don’t come from the camellia sinensis plant, they are not technically teas. Confusing, we know!
While it is commonly accepted to call them teas, they are actually herbal infusions or tisanes. But it would sound kind of silly asking someone if they’d like a cup of infusion, right?
Herbal infusions and tisanes – let’s just call them teas – can be made from the leaves, roots, stems,
berries, flowers, fruits and sometimes even seeds of plants.
Depending on the plant and what part of it is used, the flavour can be floral, fruity, spicy, bitter, sweet, woody or herbaceous. The concoctions that herbalists and naturopaths dispense as natural medicine contain many of the same botanicals that we use in our teas, just at higher concentrations.
All herbal teas are caffeine free and are a delicious way to support your health and wellbeing.
This one hits at the very heart of our beliefs, principles and philosophy.
So that you can enjoy guilt-free tea, we believe:
- in fair treatment
- that we have a responsibility - as tea suppliers and global citizens - to help improve the living standards of the farmers and workers who we rely on to bring you our high-quality teas
- in exclusively choosing to do business with Fair Trade Certified farms and co-operatives
- ensuring we support the tea suppliers in each region and understand the challenges they face
- in following stringent guidelines. Actually, they are more like non-negotiables. Fair wages, fair
prices for farmers, safe working conditions, access to health services and education, a
complete ban on child labour or forced labour, and the farm is acting in an environmentally
sustainable manor.
We’re so glad you asked. Let the bullet points roll…
- Our Purithe tea leaves are handpicked from small tea plantations, ensuring that only the new leaves are picked. We prioritise taste and quality over price.
- Our loose leaf and pyramid tea bags hold a bright, rich flavour without impurities or chemical residues.
- Most of the teas you find on supermarket shelves are commercially grown and harvested by machine from large scale tea farms. Often, these teas are also artificially enhanced with colours and flavours to disguise its lack lustre taste, before being encased in synthetic bleached tea bags.
- All of our teas – both loose-leaf and in our pyramid tea bags – are made with high quality leaves. They require a longer brew time compared with the low-quality tea pieces and dust used in most teabags found on supermarket shelves.
